Here are the major criteria that have been identified for faculty websites:

  1. The look and feel of the management interface needs to be consistent and easy to follow. I.e., consistent navigation/menu structure regardless of theme or how you access the site.
  2. The site should be quick and easy to set up and manage. I.e., faculty don't need support to perform simple functions like creating content and uploading files. Help documentation should be clear and simple.
  3. Site should support multiple browsers.
  4. There should be a way to search the site.
  5. A simple link to file system so that the student can download the actual file.
  6. There should be sufficient storage resources to upload files and images.
  7. The site should support cut/paste from MS Word.
  8. Site should have spell check.
  9. The website should have a simple authentication system for users.
  10. The website should have the option to make content on the site protected or available to users without logging on.
  11. The platform should be flexible enough to allow those who are interested in more than the basics to increase its functionality with modules or add-ons.
  12. The administration of the website should be entirely under the control of the primary user (i.e., instructor).
